Weston designed the Egg Form Vase in 1982, the date carved into the bottom of this vase. In the latter years of his life, sometime around 2005, Weston had this Egg Form Vase cast very thick so that he could carve into it, which resulted in this vase. It is the only one done to date in this fashion. It reflects Weston’s talent with pattern which is not done with precision but with a natural rhythmic repetition. Some carved lines go from the top to the bottom of the vase, while others are broken up into petals to create a hand-hewn pattern by the founder of our studio, Andersen Design of Maine.

The vase is cast in white stoneware using a clay body recipe designed by Weston. Some of the crevices look like there was brown decorating color applied, while others are plain except for the white glaze which covers the whole form. The irregular variations in the way the color is applied created a nature-made feel to the work. The vase is 6 inches tall and 4.5 inches in diameter.

Andersen Design is an American Designer Craftsmen Studio established by Weston and Brenda Andersen in 1952 on Southport Island, Maine, USA. The studio was started with a philosophy of creating hand crafted products affordable to the middle class. Andersen Design remained an American made ceramic studio when most of the western ceramic industry moved production to foreign labor markets and competed successfully in a market flooded with foreign made imports, producing a hand-made art product affordable to the middle class.
