Ceramic sculpture of a deer cradling its fawn is subtlety sculpted with a turning motion that draws the eye around the abstracted natural form. White glaze spots dapple the natural brown decorating slip on the deer’s form, suggesting the dappled sunlight that breaks through the woodland foliage. The organic form is slip cast and hand decorated by American artisans in the Andersen’s small ceramic studio on the coast of Maine since the mid-century.
