An Idea

Create a definition of a new business category identifing businesses that sustain a local and global middle class. The Fair Trade Federation partially reflects this paradigm but it is focused on fair trade between cultures. We are thinking, as well, of fair trade within a culture. The definition of such a category would encourage a network aimed at supporting and sustaining business practices that sustain a broadly based distribution of wealth, not to be confused with an enforced equality, which is fundamentally oppressive, but with a gradual continuum in the distribution of wealth which permits an individual to attain his own level through his own efforts. Such a network could function as a check against self-perpetuating greed, a inherent weakness of both private and state-owned capitalism.
