The stoneware wren by Andersen Studio of Maine conveys the naturalistic presence of a living bird, belying the stylistic and abstract formation. The sculpture invites the eye to follow curves becoming planes, becoming the fascinating beauty of the small ceramic bird. The surface of the ceramic bird is brushed in a brown textured ceramic decorating slip, and then liquid wax is applied with spontaneous brushwork. The pottery wren is then dipped in the Andersen's signature soft white matte glaze with a result that is stunningly naturalistic. The beautiful ceramic wren is three inches long- small in size, but remarkable in its artistic mastery of ceramic form and surface texture.
