The Ceramic Cat sits with a contented smile and stares into the horizon of the animal kingdom’s world. The cat’s tail swoops around its body to meet its large cat paws, sitting squarely and securely upon the ground. A striped pattern circles the voluptuous curves of its stoneware form. Mid-century ceramic artist and designer, Brenda Andersen, sculpted the Sitting Cat. It is slip-cast in red stoneware and brushed with a sandy brown decorating slip before the stripes are hand painted in hot liquid wax. The wax is resistant to the matte white glaze that finishes off the ceramic cat. The cat is fired to about 2200 degrees. The white matte glaze becomes a soft brown over the decorating slip. The stoneware-striped cat is 9 inches tall.
