Many different variables with occur with each kiln firing making each bowl a
unique creation.
The Brown Tree Pattern. like the living tree, is an archetypical form which produces endless variations.. Each artist has a unique hand with which they render the pattern of the tree. With every kiln there are interactions caused by the load density creating fluctuations in temperature and contributing to unique ceramic effects. Sometimes the brown brush work is clear and sharp, at other times the glaze flows over the lines to produce a subtle atmosphere in which the tree exits as though a misty fog had moved across the form. The art and science of ceramics is forever a partnership between what man controls and what man must accept as the mysterious work of nature.
