The Stoneware Sea Otter by Christine Andersen Tupper for Andersen Studio of Maine. This unusual ceramic sea otter is captured in a pose of blissful relaxation floating on the gently moving ocean waves. The otter grasps a bit of food with its front paws. The head is gently raised and the white fur falls downward like water, as though the otter had just finished a sea dive to capture its food. The ceramic stoneware is rendered in the sophisticated ceramic surfaces of Andersen s Studios original and unique ceramic glazes and finishes, all created from the raw materials sourced in America. The pottery otter is brushed with the Andersens brown decorating slip, with the head and an occasional tuff of fur dipped in white matte glaze. The finishing touches are the ebony glazed feet and                   The Stoneware River Otter spirals around and faces skyward. The Otters muscular form is slinky and smooth. The ceramic sculpture is so animalistic that one can feel the weight of the body as it rests on the rock and holds a freshly caught fish its paws. The graceful turning of the form seduces the beholder to follow around the ceramic form, never to be disappointed in the dynamic dimensionality of this classic work of American ceramic nature art.
